I am sending you some information about my fifty-six years of riding motorcycles.

In my younger days, I rode in field meets, scrambles and drag racing.I got involved in motorcycles when my sister was dating a high school friend which she later married. My future brother-in-law was a rider, and by association I became interested in riding.

In 1954 my brother-in-law became a motorcycle dealer, Shelly Cycle Shop in Camp Hill, PA. I hung out at his shop a lot at that time and really got involved in motorcycling.

I started riding motorcycles at sixteen.

In 1949 I bought my first motorcycle, a 1947 Servi-Cycle, known as a Power Cycle 125cc single cylinder.

In 1951 I bought my first large motorcycle, a 1949 Ariel twin 500.

I became interested in BMW’s in 1958 and bought my first BMW in March of 1959. It was a ‘58 R69 and eight months old when I got it. It had 1200 miles on the clock.

My brother-in-law was a Triumph/BSA/BMW dealer, and my new to me bike was the first BMW he’d sold. It had been traded in on a new Triumph.

I still have that R69. It now has 43,000 miles on it and is still an original unmodified bike.

In 1980 I bought a ‘64 R60/2 and a ‘53 Steib S500. I restored both of them.

Over the years I have owned 34 different kinds of bikes. I like the BMW’s most of all. In all my travels around country, I’ve met some of the finest people ever.

These days, I am blessed with many BMW friends.

I am looking forward to becoming a member of the BMW VMCA.
