Friday through Sunday morning at the Kells Farm just outside of Manchester, Ohio proved pleasant, with mild fall weather and an amiable gathering of friends.

Edd and Patti Kells hosted the VMCA Fall meet providing bath and shower facilities, camping areas, garage, and firewood and preparing all the meals. Edd told me Sunday morning that with the $10.00 gate fee, they came within $36.00 of their total expenses for the weekend. He declined reimbursement. He said this was his way of repaying the community of BMW rider and collector friends who have been kind to him and Patti over the years.

Edd and Patti invited us back for September, 2012. Please see back cover for more details.

On Saturday morning after breakfast, we held a sheet metal seminar with Slamaway Hamfist at the hammer and dolly. Mr. Hamfist split open a much dented and abused tank from an R51/3, cleaned up the sharp edges and proceeded to show us how the damaged areas get restored to their original shape.

Mr. Hamfist revealed later that he liked the part where everyone voiced their ‘Oooos and Aaaahhs’. Later in the day, he showed us how to weld up a broken foot shift lever from an R26, using an acetylene torch and several old spokes as welding rod.

Sam Booth led a several hour ride from the Kells Farm to the Serpent Mound in Brush Creek Valley, a 1330 foot long effigy near Peebles, Ohio about fifteen miles north of the Ohio River.
